He is responsible for the vision, leadership, and direction of one of Detroit’s premiere human and civil rights organizations. The Detroit Urban League’s mission is to enable African Americans and other people of color to cultivate and exercise their fullest potential on par with all other Americans. From January 1994 to January 1997, N. Charles Anderson was an appointee of former Detroit Mayor Dennis W. Archer, serving as Executive Director of the city’s Department of Human Services. From May 1983 to October 1987, Mr. Anderson served on the NAACP national staff as Director of the Midwest Region III, which encompassed seven Midwest states. He has also worked in corporate America as Sales, Marketing Representative, and District Sales Manager.

Lessons in LeadershipLessons in Leadership is an alumni speaker series co-sponsored by the WSU Alumni Association exploring the topic of leadership. Twice a semester, students will have an opportunity to listen to former students and community leaders share their own leadership experiences, what works and what doesn’t when it comes to leadership, and discuss the role leadership plays in the work they do every day. The alumni leaders will make these remarks during a one-hour public event that includes about 30 minutes for questions from the students. The speech is followed by a reception in which students talk with the guest in a more informal setting.
